Melbourne Symphony Orchestra ran one of their secret symphonies in the Melbourne city venue One Thousand Pound Bend. It was a performance of Bach's Coffee Cantata (BWV211). The cantata is one of Bach's few secular settings and it tells the story of young Lieschen, sung on the evening by Hannah Dahlenberg, who is having trouble with a coffee fixation. I played the role of Schlendrian, her father, who wants only for her daughter to meet a nice young man. The role of the narrator was sung by Timothy Reynolds. The MSO was led by Donald Nicolson at the harpsichord.
